In my loneliness, I’ve taken to messaging old acquaintances and friends I haven’t spoken to in years, high school classmates, etc, asking if they want to hang out It’s been very effective. All of them are pleasantly surprised and many want to keep it going. There’s all this talk about alienation and I think a lot of it is this feeling of emotional paralysis that leads to inaction. Anyway, try it if you feel lonely; you may have more influence than you think. I think we tend to underestimate how welcome our outreach will be.
